Die Magnetisierung einer ferromagnetischen Probe vollzieht sich zu einem mehr oder weniger großen Teil in sogenannten Barkhausensprüngen, d. h. in sprung- haften Richtungsänderungen der Magnetisierung von ferromagnetischen Elemen- tarbereichen. Die hiermit verbundenen sprunghaften Änderungen des magneti- schen Flusses rufen in einer um die Probe gewickelten Spule eine Folge elektri- scher Spannungsimpulse hervor, das sogenannte Barkhausenrauschen. Barkhausensprünge werden nicht nur durch ein äußeres Magnetfeld hervor- gerufen, also etwa beim Durchlaufen der Hysteresekurve, wobei die Magneti- sierung der gesamten Probe sich verändert (makroskopische Magnetisierungs- änderung). Vielmehr kommen als Ursache für Barkhausensprünge auch andere Einwirkungen in Betracht, wie etwa a) die Änderung mechanischer Spannungen, b) Temperaturänderungen und c) das thermische Schwankungsfeld. a) Setzt man zum Beispiel eine ferromagnetische Probe einer mechanischen Zugspannung aus, so wird sich bei positiver Magnetostriktion die Magneti- sierung der Probe vergrößern, wobei Barkhausensprünge auftreten können, wie dies etwa von KAMEl an Fe-Einkristallen beobachtet wurde [1]. b) Ändert man die Temperatur der Probe, so wird infolge verschiedener tem- peraturabhängiger Effekte (zum Beispiel Magnetostriktion und Kristallaniso- tropie) die Bereichsstruktur in eine neue Gleichgewichtssituation übergehen, was mit lokalen sprunghaften Magnetisierungsprozessen verbunden sein kann (mikroskopische Magnetisierungsänderung). LÜTGEMEIER [2, 3] hat auf diese Weise in verschiedenen Materialien Barkhausensprünge erzeugt und genauer untersucht. c) Infolge der thermischen Energie entstehen in einem ferromagnetischen Material Magnetisierungsschwankungen, die nach NEEL [4] auf ein thermi- sches Schwankungsfeld zurückgeführt werden können. Von BITTEL und LÜTGEMElER [5] sind solche lokalen Magnetisierungsänderungen insbesondere im pauschal unmagnetischen Zustand des Ferromagnetikums beschrieben worden.
