1.1 Anlaß und Zweck Ein Wesenszug unserer Zeit ist das menschliche Leistungsstreben nach höherer Wirksamkeit der Handlungen zur Sicherung und Erweiterung der Existenzgrundlagen. Mit geringerem Aufwand sollen ständig bessere Mittel für die Gestaltung der Umwelt geschaffen werden. Die vom Intellekt in zweckgerichtetem Denken zu entwickelnden Maßnahmen in diesem Bemühen sind Gegenstand der Rationalisierung. Die industrielle Entwicklung hat zu sozialen Verschiebungen und tiefge­ henden Veränderungen im Bereich der menschlichen Tätigkeiten geführt. Ihr besonderes Merkmal ist das Zurückgehen der körperlichen Arbeitsan­ teile und die Zunahme der geistig-seelischen Belasturtgen im Berufsleben. Der sogenannte Geistesarbeiter sieht sich ständig höheren Anforderungen gegenübergestellt. Die Forschungsaufgaben der Rationalisierung verlagern sich zwangsläufig in der gleichen Entwicklungsrichtung, wenn ihr Schwerpunkt immer auf den Schaffensvorgängen mit den größten Auswirkungen auf unser gesamt­ wirtschaftliches Geschehen liegen soll. Unter ihnen nimmt das geistig­ schöpferische Gestalten im technischen Konstruieren einen besonderen Rang ein. Seine geistigen Vorleistungen für materiell herzustellende Er­ zeugnisse sind notwendige Voraussetzung für die industrielle Fertigung. Das Konstruieren gehört - insbesondere durch seine Mittlerfunktion zwischen technischer Grundlagenforschung und praktischer Nutzanwendun- zu tten wichtigsten Wegbereitern des technischen Fortschritts. Die wirt­ schaftliche Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Unternehmen und im großen auch der Nationen hängt wesentlich davon ab.
