Dieses Buch widmet sich dem strukturellen Verhältnis von Schule und langfristigen schulischen Auslandsaufenthalten. Typischerweise in der elften Jahrgangsstufe realisiert, stellt diese Praxis ein genuin familiales Unterfangen dar, das aus schulischer Perspektive Friktionen erzeugt. Die staatliche Schule erweist sich als institutionelles Refugium pädagogischer Aversion gegenüber dem gesellschaftlich prominierten Randphänomen langfristiger schulischer Auslandsmobilität. Demgegenüber sind einzelne Schulen in der Lage, das transnationale Prestige des Auslandsaufenthalts organisational zu mythologisieren und Resonanzräume für affirmative pädagogische Deutungsmuster zu erzeugen. In der Studie wird zunächst eine Theorie des langfristigen schulischen Auslandsaufenthalts entwickelt, bevor ein mehrebenenanalytisches schultheoretisches Emergenzmodell entfaltet wird, welches institutionelle, organisationale und neoinstitutionalistisch-schulkulturtheoretische Aspekte in den Blick nimmt. Das dadurch konkretisierte Verhältnis wird im Zuge dreier objektiv hermeneutischer Fallrekonstruktionen empirisch überprüft. Die theoriebestätigenden Rekonstruktionsergebnisse verweisen überdies auf die pädagogisch selbstreferenzielle Abstraktion schulunterrichtlicher Geltungssphären.
