Die numerische Berechnung und Simulation von Materialien, oft auch als "Computational Materials Science" bezeichnet, nimmt in der Materialwissenschaft einen immer größeren Raum ein. Durch den interdisziplinären Charakter der Materialwissenschaft wird dabei eine Vielzahl von unterschiedlichen Verfahren eingesetzt, die von der Finite-Element-Methode bis hin zu quantenmechanischen Berechnungen reichen. Dieses Buch gibt einen umfassenden Überblick über die wichtigsten Simulationsmethoden und die numerischen Techniken, die in der Materialwissenschaft eingesetzt werden. Dabei werden alle verwendeten Verfahren detailliert erläutert und keinerlei Vorkenntnisse auf dem Gebiet der Numerik vorausgesetzt. Lediglich Grundkenntnisse der Materialwissenschaften, wie sie in Einführungsvorlesungen vermittelt werden, werden benötigt. Einzelne Phänomene wie z. B. Rekristallisation oder die Wechselwirkung von Versetzungen werden innerhalb des Buchs erläutert. Das Buch eignet sich deshalb für Studierende in Bachelor- und Masterstudiengängen der Ingenieur- und Materialwissenschaft, aber auch für alle, die einen modernen und leicht verständlichen Einstieg in dieses Themengebiet suchen. Das Buch basiert auf dem Skript zur Vorlesung "Numerische Methoden in der Materialwissenschaft", die seit 25 Jahren an der Technischen Universität Braunschweig gehalten wird.

About the Author :
Dr. Martin Bäker ist Physiker und forscht und lehrt seit 1996 am Institut für Werkstoffe der Technischen Universität Braunschweig. Sein Arbeitsgebiet ist die Materialsimulation, die er seit 1999 auch in der Lehre vermittelt.  Seine Bücher "Funktionswerkstoffe" und "Mechanisches Verhalten der Werkstoffe" (als Ko-Autor) sind ebenfalls bei SpringerVieweg erschienen.
