Das Buch bildet die Grundlage für die Vorlesungsreihe „Finite Elemente“ und „Tragwerksdynamik“, die der Verfasser für Bauingenieur- und Maschinenbaustudenten des 8. und 9. Semesters gehalten hat. Es trägt dazu bei, die Fähigkeit des Ingenieurs zu stärken, reale Konstruktionen in FE-Modellen abzubilden sowie die Ergebnisse der Computerrechnungen vor dem Hintergrund FE-spezifischer Annahmen zu interpretieren. Die Darstellung zielt auf die Verdeutlichung des strukturmechanischen Hintergrunds, weniger auf die numerischen der Mathematik, ohne die die Realisierung der Methode der Finiten Elemente auf dem Computer nicht denkbar ist. Der Bezug zur Praxis wird in zahlreichen Anwendungsbeispielen aus dem Bauingenieurwesen und dem Maschinenbau hergestellt.

About the Author :
Nach seiner Promotion auf dem Gebiet der Finite Elemente Analyse von Stabilitätsproblemen wurde Michael Link 1972 Entwicklungsingenieur in einem Unternehmen der Luft- und Raumfahrtindustrie. Er übernahm dort die Leitung Abteilung Strukturberechnung und Test mit Projekten zur Entwicklung der Europäischen Trägerrakete ARIANE, des SPACELAB Raumlabors und verschiedener Satelliten sowie zur Entwicklung von Verfahren zur Auslegung und Auswertung von Schwingungstests. Seit 1980 bis zu seinem Eintritt in den Ruhestand im Jahr 2006 war er Professor für Leichtbau und Leiter des Labors für Leichtbau und Strukturmechanik an der Universität Kassel und hielt Vorlesungen über Finite Elemente, Strukturdynamik, Technische Mechanik und Grundlagen des Leichtbaus. Seine Forschungstätigkeiten erstrecken sich auf die Gebiete experimentelle Strukturdynamik, Finite Elemente Methoden und Identifikation mechanischer Systeme. Seine Beratertätigkeit umfasst die experimentelle Strukturdynamik und deren Anwendungen zur Validierung von Finite Elemente Modellen und zur Bauwerksüberwachung.
