Der Band kann als fragmentarische Vergleichende Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte vom 18. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert rezipiert werden. Der erste Teil enthält Aufsätze zu den vieldeutigen Narrativen von George Sand und Donatien-Alphonse-François de Sade mit der ästhetischen Verwandlung der geschlechterspezifischen und realgesellschaftlichen Ungerechtigkeiten ihrer Zeit. Der zweite Teil vertieft die interpretative Analyse der literarischen Bearbeitung von geschlechterspezifischer Ungleichheit, Gewalt und Machtmißbrauch in Aufsätzen zu Casanova, zur Romantik und zur paradoxen Schreibsituation von Schriftstellerinnen wie Yourcenar, Nin, Triolet und Beauvoir bis zu den intellektuell-fantastischen Exzessen von Nothomb. Ce livre peut être regardé comme les fragments d'une histoire littéraire comparée du 18e au 20e siècle. La première partie contient des articles sur les romans et les textes autobiographiques de George Sand et les romans philosophiques de Donatien-Alphonse-François de Sade qui transposent les injustices et la violence sexuée de leurs époques en préfigurant la modernité. La deuxième partie analyse l'inégalité sociale, et les abus du pouvoir dans l'autobiographie de Casanova. Les romantiques Ludwig Tieck et E.T.A. Hoffmann présentent des réalités parallèles. Les articles sur les femmes-écrivains Yourcenar, Nin, Triolet et Beauvoir accentuent la situation paradoxe de la femme qui écrit.
