Verstummen, Schweigen und Stille sind Phanomene, die in der Literatur seit Ovid einen wichtigen Stellenwert einnehmen. Die Thematisierung der Sprache findet sich auch im Werk Franz Kafkas kontinuierlich verarbeitet. Funktion und Wirkung von Verstummen, Stille und Reartikulation bei Kafka wurde fur dessen Romane erschopfend untersucht. Diese Arbeit soll, in zwei relativ kurzen Texten Kafkas, Ahnlichem im Zuge des Seminars 'Vom Verstummen zum Reartikulieren', nachgehen. Allein der Titel des ersten Textes 'Das Schweigen der Sirenen' legt die Idee nahe- nicht nur ob der ausdrucklichen Erwahnung des Schweigens an sich, sondern auch wegen der Verwurzelung des Stoffes in der griechischen Mythologie. Moglicher Ausgangspunkt allen Verstummens, Schweigens und Reartikulierens namlich ist die grausame Geschichte der Philomele in Ovids 'Metamorphosen'. Hierauf grundet sich der Ansatz, das Verstummen der Sirenen im Text zu analysieren, seine Wirkung und die Frage nach einer Reartikulation der Sirenen aufzuwerfen.'Die Verwandlung' Kafkas lasst sich ebenso in mit dem Thema des Seminars verbinden: Erneut kann man im wortwortlichen Sinne bleiben, Die Verwandlung als Anspielung von Ovids Metamorphosen, dem Zyklus in dem der Philomele-Mythos sich einreiht, ist assoziativ denkbar, wenn auch Beispielweise Hartmut Binder 'keinerlei'1 direkte Verbindung herstellen will.2 Auch hier ist ein Verstummen des Protagonisten zu beobachten, zudem findet der bewusste Versuch statt, den Sprachverlust durch Reartikulation auf physischer Ebene zu kompensieren. Der Umfang dieses Abschnittes ist grosser, als der der Sirenen. Dies ist der Tatsache geschuldet, dass auch der Textumfang der Verwandlung ungleich grosser ist.Zuletzt findet sich als Ausblick aus 'Die Verwandlung' eine weitere Art der Reartikulation der Kafkarezeption an sich: Peter Kuper verfasste, ahnlich wie Robert Crumb mit 'Introducing Kafka'3, eine Comicversion des literarischen Textes. Uber Kafkas literarisches Schaffen hinaus entsteht eine neuerliche Reartikulation in Form eines Medienwechsels, der nicht unerwahnt bleiben soll.
