Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Darstellung und die Funktion von Comala in Juan Rulfos Roman Pedro P ramo. Das Thema ist schon mehrmals von Literaturwissenschaftlern untersucht worden und heute noch durch das vielseitige Bild des Dorfes und dessen Bewohner besonders interessant. Die Erz hlungen der Gestorbenen, wie es sich sp ter im Roman erweist, lassen den Leser das Dorf mehrfach in unterschiedlichem Licht sehen. Als ein Werk der Literatur des, Magischen Realismus' hat der Roman zwei von einander entfernte und doch untereinander gemischte Seiten: das Reale und Irreale, das Physische und Paraphysische, die Magie des Mythos und die Gewalt der Wirklichkeit. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit werden die verschiedenen Darstellungen von Comala, das die Hauptfigur des Romans ist, analysiert. Denn alle Erz hlungen handeln direkt und indirekt. Das ist der Handlungsort und alle Figuren, die je im Roman auftreten, stellen das Bild von Comala, ihr gemeinsames Heimatort, dar. Die Geschichten geben dem Dorf ein Herz und erwecken es zum Leben, indem die Gestorbenen in den Augen Juan Preciados wiederaufwachen. Die Darstellung an sich teilt sich in vier Betrachtungspunkten. Zuerst wird das Dorf aus religi ser Sicht untersucht, denn im Werk kommen zwei v llig unterschiedliche Glaubenvariationen zum Vorschein und n mlich Christentum und indianischer Mythologie. Dem Leser begegnet einerseits ein Comala, das von den indios, deren Symbolik und Mythos vom Weiterleben der Toten eingepr gt ist, und anderseits ein rein katholisches Dorf mit gl ubigen Bewohnern, mit Kirche und Pfarrer, deren Schutzfunktion untersucht wird. Als n chstes wird Comalas Darstellung als das typische mexikanische Dorf zur Zeit der Revolution in Lateinamerika untersucht. Es ist der Stereotyp des Herren - Knechtverh ltnisses. Ein Ort, in dem Gewalt und Verbrechen an der Tagesordnung stehen und dagegen wird nicht gek mpft. Als letztes wird das Bild von Comala als Stadt der Echos und Reich der Toten analysiert. Im zwe
