Kindheit in der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik war stark beeinflusst von der sozialistischen Ideologie, die sich durch alle Ebenen der gesellschaftlichen Struktur zog. Auch das Bildungssystem blieb davon nicht verschont. Vielmehr war dies sogar der zentrale Ort um die jungen Generationen fur den Sozialismus zu begeistern. Doch was verstand man in der DDR unter dem Begriff Kind? Wie sah das Kindheitsbild aus? Gab es nur das starre Konstrukt der sozialistischen Personlichkeit, das von jedem Kind als Idealbild anerkannt und erreicht werden sollte? Dies sind zentrale Fragen, auf die diese Arbeit Antworten sucht. Es werden daher anhand einer Qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse von 15 Kinderbuchern, die im Literaturunterricht von den Schulern gelesen werden sollten, sieben Kindheitskonstruktionen aufgedeckt und untersucht. Im ersten Kapitel werden erst einmal unterschiedliche Ansatze zur allgemeinen Definition von Kindheit aufgezeigt um auf den Begriff der Kindheitskonstruktion zu kommen, der dieser Arbeit zugrunde liegt. Im zweiten Kapitel wird dann mit Hilfe der Forschungsliteratur geklart, was Kindheit in der DDR ausmachte, welche Institutionen an der Erziehung beteiligt und welche Erziehungsziele vorherrschend waren. Das dritte Kapitel beschaftigt sich dann mit der Bedeutung von Kinderbuchern in der DDR und gibt einen Einblick in das Verstandnis von Literatur alspersonlichkeitsentwickelndem Medium, welches im Literaturunterricht der DDR eine wichtige Rolle spielte. Im vierten Kapitel werden Anlage und Methode der Untersuchung kurz dar- und das Kategoriensystem aufgestellt, welches die Grundlage dieser Arbeit bildet. Im funften Kapitel erfolgt dann die Darstellung der Kindheitskonstruktionen in den Kinderbuchern an Textbeispielen aus den untersuchten Buchern. Dabei werden sieben Unterkapitel, die mit den Kategorien der Untersuchung identisch sind, aufgemacht, und anhand der Textbeispiele die verschiedenen Kindheitskonstruktionen erlautert: Der Pionier, Das arbeitende Kind, Der Schuler, Kinder als Lehrer, Kinder in Geschlechterrollen, Der Rebell und Das Kind abseits der Gesellschaft. In der Schlussbetrachtung werden die Kindheitskonstruktionen noch einmal zusammengefasst und mit den Eigenschaften der sozialistischen Personlichkeit, die im zweiten Kapitel beschrieben wurden, verglichen.
