Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Filmwissenschaft, Note: 1,7, Freie Universität Berlin (AVL), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: DIE GESCHICHTE VON SAILOR UND LULA 1 ist die Geschichte zweier Liebender in einer lieblos gewordenen Welt. Da die Interessen der beiden Protagonisten nicht mehr mit denen ihrer Umwelt in Einklang zu bringen sind, sehen sie ihr einziges Heil in der Flucht. Diese Flucht vollzieht sich auf verschiedenen Ebenen. Einerseits flüchten sie vor Marietta, Lula`s tyrannischer Mutter, und deren Gangster-Freunden von "Cape Fear- somewhere near the border between North and South Carolina" 2 in Richtung Kalifornien (wo sie allerdings nicht ankommen). Andererseits flüchten sie vor der eigenen, kleinbürgerlichen Identität, vor der Tatsache, dass sie eigentlich ganz gewöhnliche Leute sind, in die Pose, in die Welt der Pop- und Filmstars der 50er Jahre (Elvis Presley, James Dean, der junge Marlon Brando3, Marilyn Monroe, etc.). Sailor ist der "coole" Rebell in der Schlangenlederjacke, der immer einen flotten Spruch oder einen Elvis-Song auf den Lippen hat. Er ist stets bereit tollkühn Lulas Leben und ihre Ehre zu verteidigen. Lula ist das Babe, dass sich vorwiegend in Pink kleidet stets dazu aufgelegt ist tanzen zu gehen und mit einer geardezu verbissenen Hartnäckigkeit versucht, alles Schlechte und Böse aus ihrem Leben fernzuhalten oder zu ignorieren. Es ist also auch eine spirituelle Flucht aus der langweilligen und grausamen "Realität" der 80er in die schillernde und "heile" Traumwelt der 50er Jahre. Gleichzeitg ist ihre Flucht aber auch eine Suche, eine Suche nach der Kindheit, die ihnen nie vergönnt war. Die Naivität ihrer Weltansicht, Lula`s Glauben an Märchengestalten, Ihre Begeisterung für kindliche Gegenstände-die Meerjungfrau im Glas, die Lutschbonbon-Kette sind deutliche Indizien dafür, dass Sie nicht erwachsen werden können oder wollen. Sie entfliehen ihrer verdorbenen, bedrohlichen Umwelt auf der Suche, nach einem unschuldigen Urzustand.
