Jahrhundert entstand im Deutschen Kaiserreich der Trend, Denkm ler an ffentlichen Pl tzen zu errichten. Dies geschah entweder im Auftrag des Kaisers oder im b rgerlichen Auftrag von St dten und Vereinen. Man war bestrebt, das Kulturgut, welches man mit dem Deutschen Kaisserreich - durch ihre Geschichte - in Verbindung bringen konnte, nach aussen hin zu repr sentieren. Dieses tat man, indem man Denkm ler grosser Pers nlichkeiten errichtete. Neben den Vertretern der Literatur, wie Goethe, Schiller oder Lessing, fand man auch Denkm ler von den wichtigsten Vertretern der Musik, wie Mozart, Bach und Beethoven wieder. Zwei sehr bedeutende, ffentlich zug ngliche, Beethoven-Denkm ler (siehe Abb. 1/2 - S. 3) finden wir in Bonn, errichtet 1845, und in Wien, errichtet 1880, wieder. Der Bildhauer Ernst Julius H hnel stattete sein in Bonn errichtetes Beethoven Denkmal mit Hinweisen aus, die f r die Ehrung eines angesehenen K nstlers sprechen, der ein grosses Kulturgut hinterlie . Ludwig van Beethoven (*1770; 1827) ist auf diesem Denkmal in einer leichten Schrittstellung, k rperbetont, r hmend aufgerichtet und mit einer Schreibfeder dargestellt, die als ein Symbol f r seine musikalische und k nstlerische Inspiration steht. Caspar Clemens von Zumbusch errichtete seinen Beethoven (Wien) weit wegger ckt, hoch oben vom Betrachter entfernt auf einer dreistufigen Basis. Diese Distanz zum Rezipienten unterst tzt das Gef hl von Respekt und Erhabenheit, die man dem Komponisten durch Erinnerung und Andacht zollen soll. Neben dem K nstler finden wir Putten, die die Sinfonien des K nstlers versinnbildlichen. V llig entgegengesetzt zu dieser Tradition, ein Denkmal in seinem Bildprogramm so auszustatten, dass der Betrachter auf Anhieb dieses entschl
