About the Book

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Romanistik - Italienische u. Sardische Sprache, Literatur, Landeskunde, Note: 2,0, Universität Passau (Philosophische Fakultät), Veranstaltung: Lektürekurs Dante, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Erich Auerbach wurde im Jahre 1892 in Berlin geboren, wo er später auch zunächst das Französische Gymnasium besuchte und anschließend ein Jurastudium begann. Dieses führte ihn außerdem nach Freiburg und München und brachte ihm 1913 den Doktortitel ein. Nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem Ersten Weltkrieg, begann er sich intensivst mit seinem zweiten Studium, nämlich der romanischen Sprachen zu befassen, welches er wiederum mit dem Doktortitel 1921 in Greifswald abschloss. Anschließend begann er als Bibliothekar in der preußischen Staatsbibliothek in Berlin. Diese Tätigkeit hatte er bis 1929 inne. In diesem Jahr erschien auch das vorliegende Werk "Dante als Dichter der irdischen Welt", welches zur Berufung auf die Professur der Romanistik in Marburg führte. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg floh der jüdischstämmige Auerbach zunächst nach Istanbul. Auch hier bekam er eine Professur und verfasste sein bedeutendes Werk "Mimesis: Dargestellte Wirklichkeit in der abendländischen Literatur", eines der entscheidendsten Werke zur Literatur- und Kulturkritik die im 20. Jahrhundert überhaupt erschienen. Nach Kriegsende wanderte er 1947 in die USA aus, wo er zunächst an der Pennsylvania State University begann und ab 1949 auch Mitglied an dem hoch angesehenen Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton wurde. Die letzten Jahre seines Lebens verbrachte er dann noch in Yale, wo er 1950 begann. 1957 starb Erich Auerbach im Alter von 65 Jahren.

    A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

    Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
