Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Klassiker und Theorierichtungen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Konzeption der Risikogesellschaft von Ulrich Beck erscheint 1986 erstmals mit dem Untertitel "Auf dem Weg in eine andere Moderne". In diesem Werk nähert sich der Autor der modernen Gesellschaft analytisch auf neue Weise an, indem er sie als zunehmend reflexiv in ihren Denk- und Handlungsmustern begreift. Es ist der Weg in eine andere Moderne, der ihn beschäftigt, der Abschied von der ersten Moderne, die in Gestalt der Industrie- und Klassengesellschaft das Bewusstsein bestimmt. Die zweite, die andere Moderne kennt Risiken in bislang unbekannter Dimension, neue Unsicherheiten durch "die Erfahrung eines beschleunigten Strukturwandels" (Bonß, 2000, 25). Die Analyse der Gesellschaft zum Ende des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts baut Beck auf breiter Grundlage auf. Es entsteht dabei das Bild einer "noch weitgehend unbegriffene[n] Epoche des Industrialismus" (Beck, 1991, 98), das vor allem die Dimension der ökologischen Risiken und Gefahren durch technisch-wissenschaftliche Entwicklungen der Moderne in die Analyse der Gesellschaft einbezieht. Der technologisch-ökologischen Seite des Fortschritts und der damit verbundenen Risiken widmet er weite Teile seines Werkes, das durch den zeitnahen Reaktorunfall von Tschernobyl ungeahnte Aktualität erfährt. Ökologie und Technologie beschäftigen Beck und in der Auseinandersetzung mit diesen Themen nimmt sein Werk bisweilen fortschritts- und wissenschaftskritische Züge an. Am stärksten greifen die neuen Unsicherheiten der zweiten Moderne auf das Individuum über und bestimmen alle Bereiche seiner Lebenswelt. Die "Erosion, Verflüssigung und Auflösung tradierter Bindungen" (Bonß, 2000, 27), die neue Suche nach Identität und die damit verbundene Umdeutung sozialer Strukturen "[j]enseits von Klasse und Schicht" (Beck, 1986, 121) kennzeichnen die Biografien der reflexiven Moderne.
