Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Politik - Internationale Politik - Region: Naher Osten, Vorderer Orient, Note: 1,3, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Politikwissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Internationale Beziehungen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Golfregion und speziell Meldungen aus Irak und Iran bestimmen in den letzten Jahrzehnten die Nachrichtensendungen der Industriestaaten. Bisher konnte kein Konflikt der dritten Welt - den Vietnam Krieg eingeschlossen - ein solches weltpolitisches Interesse erzeugen wie die ersten beiden Golfkriege (vgl. Bassam 1992: 12). Auch spielen Unruhen in Afrika und Südamerika meist in der medialen Berichterstattung nur eine untergeordnete Rolle. Schon dadurch wird die enorme Bedeutung dieses Gebietes offensichtlich. So wurde auch der ersten Staatsbesuches der iranischen Präsidenten Ahmadinedschad im Irak nach der Islamischen Revolution vor fast drei Jahrzehnten Gegenstand vieler Berichte und Zeitungsartikel. Erst 5 Jahre nach dem Sturz Saddam Husseins und der Beseitigung seines Regimes konnte sich die iranische Regierung dazu bewegen, den früheren Kriegsgegner Iran zu besuchen und einen Neuanfang der bilateralen Verhältnisse anzustreben (Deutsche Presse Agentur 2008 a). Vor diesem Hintergrund und den täglichen Meldungen über nicht endende Ausschreitungen im Irak scheint es von großem Interesse zu sein, wie und warum es in dieser Region immer wieder zu Konflikten solchen Ausmaßes kommt. Sind es die enormen Erdölvorkommen der Region, ethische beziehungsweise religiöse Differenzen oder Kämpfe um die Vormachtstellung in der Region? Die Theorien internationaler Politik versuchen das Verhalten von Staaten zu erklären. Ihre Erklärungsansätze reichen hierbei von realistischen über liberalistische bis hin zu konstruktivistischen Herangehensweisen. In dieser Arbeit wird die Theorie des Neorealismus nach Kenneth N.
