1. Einleitung Der Abschluss eines Hochschulstudiums ist in der Regel nicht mit einer Ausbildung fur einen konkreten Beruf zu vergleichen. Allein durch das erfolgreiche Beschliessen des Studiums ist fur einen Akademiker die Frage nach dem Beruf noch nicht zwingend beantwortet. Je nach Fachrichtung ergeben sich zahlreiche Moglichkeiten, beruflich tatig zu werden. So auch in der Sozialen Arbeit. Sicherlich gibt es typische Berufsbilder. Studenten der Sozialen Arbeit absolvieren im allgemeinen ihr Studium mit der Vorstellung, spater bei staatlichen oder kirchlichen Tragern tatig zu werden, um dort ihren Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen. Allerdings ergaben sich diesbezuglich aufgrund politischer und wirtschaftlicher Hintergrunde, in den letzten Jahren Veranderungen. Durch Kurzungen von offentlichen Budgets sind die Beschaftigungszahlen im offentlichen Dienst gesunken. Daruber hinaus sind demographische und soziokulturelle Veranderungen massgebliche Grunde fur das Entstehen von neuen Problemfeldern. Somit ist die Soziale Arbeit mit einer steigenden Arbeitslosenquote konfrontiert. Andererseits haben sich durch strukturelle Veranderungen neue Arbeitsfelder ergeben. Unter den aufgefuhrten Umstanden ist die in der sozialpolitischen Disskussion erhobene Forderung nach einer Privatisierung der sozialen Dienste durchaus nachvollziehbar. Selbstandigkeit wird heute mehr denn je als eine berufliche Alternative angesehen. Trotzdem liegt der Anteil der Selbstandigen in Deutschland - im internationalen Vergleichin der unteren Halfte. Doch der Trend zur beruflichen Selbstandigkeit nimmt deutlich zu. Allein 1997 entstanden in Deutschland rund 670 000 neue Unternehmungen.1 Diese steigende Attraktivitat ist unter anderem auf wirtschaftliche Fordermittel, von Seiten des Staates zuruckzufuhren, die in Form von steuerlichen Hilfen, offentlichen Burgschaften, zinsgunstigen Dahrlehen etc. gewahrleistet werden. Daneben wird durch Fortbildungen und einer steigenden Anzahl von Projekten zur Forderung der Existenzgrundung2 die Selbstandigkeit in der Offentlichkeit thematisiert. Auch in der Sozialen Arbeit hat sich die Zahl der Selbstandigen erhoht. Obwohl diese Moglichkeit vor wenigen Jahren noch nicht zur Disskussion stand, wird der Anteil der Selbstandigen unter Sozialpadagogen mittlerweile auf 6% geschatzt.
