Die vorliegende Arbeit beschaftigt sich mit den Problemen, die bei der Einfuhrung bzw. dem Einsatz von Knowledge-Management-Systemem auftreten. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf jenen Problemen, die den Menschen betreffen, bzw. dadurch erst entstehen, dass der Mensch mit seinen Bedurfnissen und Anforderungen bei der Planung derartiger Systeme nicht ausreichend beachtet wird. Die resultierenden Probleme sind insbesondere mangelnde Motivation zur Teilnahme am System und Angst, wertvolles Wissen konnte von anderen zum Machtgewinn oder ahnlichem missbraucht werden. Die Aussage, dass Wissen sich bei Teilung vermehrt, und dass das System nur durch Teilnahme attraktiv werden kann, wird dabei meist nicht akzeptiert. Zur Losung dieser Probleme wird der Ansatz der Knowledge Communities' vorgestellt. Hierbei dreht sich alles um eine bessere Einbindung des Menschen in ein System. Die Bildung einer Community soll den einzelnen Nutzer emotional mit dem System verbinden, so dass die Teilnahme daran weitgehend automatisch geschieht. Zusatzlich spielen dabei auch bestimmte Instrumente, die zur Nutzung anregen sollen, eine Rolle. Schliesslich wird gezeigt, dass sich hinter diesem Konzept interessante und auch erfolgreiche Ideen verbergen, die das Thema Knowledge Management weiterbringen konnen.
