About the Book

Louis Jacobsohn-Lask (1863-1940) steht einerseits exemplarisch für die jüdischen Privatdozenten, die zu Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts die Neurologie in Berlin am Rand der Universität etablierten. Ihre Vertreibung 1933 aus Deutschland bedeutete eine erhebliche wissenschaftliche Einbuße. Andererseits beschritt er einen Sonderweg: in der neuroanatomischen Grundlagenforschung verknüpfte er schon früh Struktur und Funktion von Zellen anhand ihrer Bestandteile, beschäftigte sich mit vergleichender Hirnforschung, Evolutionstheorien und Moralforschung. 1936 emigrierte er in die Sowjetunion und setzte dort seine Forschungen fort. Umfangreiche unveröffentlichte Quellen ermöglichten eine Rekonstruktion gerade dieser Zeit, so daß das Buch nicht nur ein Beitrag zur Neurologiegeschichte, sondern auch zur Geschichte des Exils in der Sowjetunion ist.

About the Author :
Die Autorin: Ulrike Eisenberg wurde 1965 in Bielefeld geboren, studierte Humanmedizin in Marburg und Berlin, lebt in Berlin und arbeitet als Neurochirurgin im Klinikum Barnim in Eberswalde. Von 1994 bis 2000 nahm sie an einer Arbeitsgruppe über deutsch-russische Medizinbeziehungen (1900-1940) in Berlin und Toronto teil. 2005 erfolgte die Promotion an der Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Institut für Geschichte der Medizin.
