Seit Mitte der sechziger Jahre galt der sizilianische Autor Leonardo Sciascia (1921-1989) als der profilierteste Anti-Mafia-Schriftsteller Italiens. Doch dieses Bild begann sich zu trüben, nachdem sich Sciascia am 10. Januar 1987 in der Tageszeitung Corriere della Sera in seinem provokanten Essay I professionisti dell'antimafia gegen die modernen Methoden der staatlichen Mafia-Bekämpfung gewandt hatte, die ihm zum Selbstzweck zu verkommen schienen. So beschuldigte er den palermitanischen Bürgermeister Leoluca Orlando und den Richter Paolo Borsellino, mit ihrem Engagement gegen die Mafia allein populistisch ihre eigene Karriere befördern zu wollen. Die Studie zeichnet die landesweit in der Tagespresse sowie in historisch, soziologisch und politologisch orientierten Publikationen ausgetragene und bis heute polarisierende Debatte nach. Beleuchtet wird unter sozialpsychologischen und landeskundlichen Aspekten die nicht ungefährliche Position des italienischen Intellektuellen gegenüber Mafia und Anti-Mafia. Gleichzeitig liefert die rezeptionsgeschichtliche Arbeit Anhaltspunkte für eine Teil-Revidierung des bisherigen Sciascia-Bildes als eines überzeugten und unbestechlichen Mafia-Gegners.

About the Author :
Die Autorin: Ulrike Hollender, geboren 1968, studierte an den Universitäten Düsseldorf, Poitiers und Perugia Italienische und Französische Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaft sowie Mittelalterliche Geschichte. 1996-1998 war sie Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Heinrich-Heine-Institut in Düsseldorf. 1998 Preis der Deutschen Dante-Gesellschaft. Derzeit ist sie Bibliotheksreferendarin an der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Promotion 2000.
