ThePKCseriesofconferences yearlyrepresentsinternationalresearchandthelatestachievementsinthearea ofpublickeycryptography,coveringawidespectrumoftopics,fromcryptos- temstoprotocols,implementationtechniquesorcryptanalysis. Afterbeingheld infoursuccessiveyearsinpaci?c-asiancountries,PKC2002experiencedforthe ?rsttimeaEuropeanlocation,thusshowingitsabilitytoreachaneverwider audiencefromboththeindustrialcommunityandacademia. Weareverygratefultothe19membersoftheProgramCommitteefortheir hardande?cientworkinproducingsuchahighqualityprogram. Inresponseto thecallforpapersofPKC2002,69paperswereelectronicallyreceivedfrom13 di?erentcountriesthroughoutEurope,America,andtheFarEast.
