About the Author :
Between 1984 and 1989, Roland Dittmeyer studied Chemical Engineering at Erlangen-Nurnberg University, gaining his doctorate in Chemical Reaction Engineering in 1994. In 1998 he took over as head of Technical Chemistry working group at the Karl-Winnacker-Institute of DECHEMA, Frankfurt/Main. He received lecturing qualification in Technical Chemistry from Erlangen-Nurnberg University in 2001. Since then he taught at Regensburg University and Erlangen-Nurnberg University where he was appointed Professor in 2006. Professor Dittmeyer's research focuses on multifunctional reactors, microreaction engineering, applied heterogeneous catalysis, fuel cells and innovative modeling approaches in chemical reaction engineering. Wilhelm Keim studied chemistry in Munster and Saarbrucken, gaining his doctorate in 1963 at the MPI of Coal Research. Following many years working at Shell Development USA, he was appointed Professor and Director of the Institute for Technical Chemistry and Petrochemistry at the RWTH Aachen in 1973. He researched and taught mainly in the field of homogenous catalysis and process development, for which he was awarded several scientific prizes, including the Mittasch Medal. Professor Keim held several honorary positions, such as member of the supervisory board at Degussa-Huls AG, deputy chairman of the board at DECHEMA, member of the board of the GDCh, and deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the Karl-Winnacker Institute. Following his studies and doctorate in chemistry, Gerhard Kreysa has been working on topics related to technical electrochemistry and environmental protection at the Karl-Winnacker Institute of DECHEMA, Frankfurt/Main, since 1973. He has been awarded several scientific prizes in Germany and abroad, an honorary doctorate from Clausthal Technical University and the Royal Technical College of Stockholm, and he is Professor at Dortmund University and Regensburg University. In 1992 he took over management of DECHEMA and since then has concentrated on matters concerning the promotion of research and the acceptance of science and technology within society, a task that also involves many honorary positions. Alfred Oberholz studied chemistry at the RWTH Aachen from 1970 to 1976, gaining his doctorate in 1980. He joined Huls AG in 1980, where he took over as head of reaction technology/explosive processes in 1987, becoming head of silanes/silicones in 1994. Two years later, Dr. Oberholz was appointed a member of the board at Huls AG, and he has been on the board of Degussa AG since 2001.
