Was geschieht im Gottesdienst? Auf den ersten Blick klingt diese Frage recht harmlos. Man könnte sie als Auftrag verstehen, das zu beschreiben, was in einem Gottesdienst der Reihe nach "dran ist": Glocken - Orgelvorspiel - Votum und Begrëßung usw. Gewiss spielt dieser "agendarische" Aspekt keine unwesentliche Rolle. Deshalb werden im vorliegenden Buch auch die großen Traditionen des abendländischen Gottesdienstes (Messe und Predigtgottesdienst) sowie neuere Formen der Feier in ihrer Bedeutung erklärt.Neben dieser Außenschau (wer spricht/singt/spielt was wann?) gibt es auch eine Innenperspektive: Was berëhrt? Was vergewissert? Was rëttelt auf und ermutigt? Sehr schnell sind wir damit bei der aufregenden Frage nach der theologischen und geistlichen Mitte des Gottesdienstes angelangt. Handeln da nur Menschen oder auch Gottes Geist? Was können wir dazu tun, dass ein Gottesdienst gelingt, dass es ein guter, schöner, ermutigender, einladender etc. Gottesdienst wird? Was ist dabei Tun des Menschen und was ist uns als Werk Gottes schlechterdings unverfëgbar?Über diese grundsätzlichen Fragen hinaus bietet der Autor sog. theologische Vertiefungsthemen zum Thema Kirchenjahr, Kirchenraum; Ämter im Gottesdienst, aber auch zu den gottesdienstlichen Stëcken selbst: die wiederkehrenden Stëcke der Messe (Kyrie, Gloria usw.), Gebet, Abendmahl, Musik und Segen.

Er hat einen Lehrauftrag fÃ"r Chorleitung und Theologie an der Universität Hildesheim und an der Fachhochschule Hannover. Er ist außerdem Privatdozent fÃ"r Systematische Theologie an der Universität Leipzig.
