Das gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Umfeld, in dem Unter­ nehmen agieren, wird sich in den nächsten Jahren stärker ver­ ändern als viele sich bislang vorstellen können oder auch wollen. Es wird andere Wertedominanzen geben, andere Antriebsfelder tun sich für die Menschen auf. Diese "neue Zeit" wird ganz ent­ scheidend von einer weit um sich greifenden Demokratisierung des Wissens geprägt sein, das heißt, Wissen wird für viele in vol­ lem Umfang und zur gleichen Zeit verfügbar sein. Die Art und Weise wie heute in Unternehmen gedacht, gefühlt und gehandelt wird, wie man sich formal organisiert, wie man miteinander um­ geht oder mit welchen überholten Strukturen man versucht, über die Runden zu kommen, wird in Zukunft anderen Prüfungen stand­ halten müssen, um nicht in heute schon auszumachende Sack­ gassen zu führen. In einer solchen "neuen Zeit" rückt deshalb das Verhalten jedes einzelnen stärker in den Mittelpunkt. Auch das Management- und Führungsverhalten bleibt davon nicht ver­ schont. Die steigende Komplexität der Aufgaben und Problemstellungen gepaart mit der heute oft anzutreffenden Undurchsichtigkeit von Entscheidungen, Kompetenzen und Strukturen führt zwangsläu­ fig zu Überforderung, Ablehnung und Demotivation. Mitarbeiter werden in Zukunft ihr betriebliches Arbeitsdasein nicht mehr in einem Zustand des Nichtwissen- und Nichtleistendürfens hin­ nehmen. Sie werden auch eine "Mikrowellen-Kompetenz" zur Im­ plementierung neuer Strukturen oder auch Denkhaltungen nicht mehr akzeptieren. Ziel sollte es deshalb sein, Wege für ein kom­ petentes Unternehmen mit kompetenten Mitarbeitern und Führungs­ kräften zu finden.
