In der seit 1994 erscheinenden Edition der Tagebcher, Skizzenbcher und Notizhefte Hermann Bahrs, des wohl prominentesten Mittlers der Moderne in sterreich, folgt nun mit Band 4 die Edition der Texte aus den Jahren 1904-1905. Diese beiden Jahre waren fr Bahr aus zweierlei Hinsicht von besonderer Bedeutung. Zum einen lsten seine Griechenlandreisen von 1904 und 1905 einen Begeisterungssturm fr die altattische Kunst aus, der nicht nur in der passiven Rezeption von Kunstprodukten sowie der intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit den Forschungsergebnissen der zeitgenssischen Archologie ihren Niederschlag fand, sondern Bahr an die Mglichkeiten einer Synthese aus antiker Kunstauffassung und sthetischen Positionen der Moderne glauben lie. Als Ausdruck dieser Auseinandersetzung mit der griechischen Antike kann Bahrs Dialog vom Marsyas sowie sein Entwurf gebliebener und in diesem Band wiedergegebener Dialog vom Laster angesehen werden. Zum anderen zeugen diese Jahre von Bahrs Bemhungen, an der Entwicklung des deutschsprachigen Theaters aktiv zu partizipieren. Da ihm seine Stellung als Theaterkritiker nicht mehr gengen wollte, versuchte er als Oberregisseur und Dramaturg seine Vorstellungen von Schauspiel- und Theaterkunst zu verwirklichen, wobei ihm allerdings in den Jahren 1904 bis 1905 kein Erfolg beschieden sein sollte. Nichtsdestotrotz sind seine in den Tagebuchtexten verzeichneten Verhandlungen mit der Intendanz der kniglichen Theater in Mnchen, seine Spielplanentwrfe sowie seine berlegungen zu notwendigen Neuengagements von Knstlern und Knstlerinnen von besonderem Aufschlu sowohl fr Bahrs sthetische Konzeptionen als auch fr Fragen der Theaterpraxis der Jahrhundertwende.
