Hans-Joachim Stadermann befasst sich mit der Nominalökonomik, einer monetären Theorie der Wirtschaft. Sie ist der Gegenentwurf zu der auf vermeintliche Ursachen des Wertes zentrierten Schulökonomik. Statt der wissenschaftlich unhaltbaren Werthypothesen der klassischen und neoklassischen Tradition, liefert für die Nominalökonomik das System der in Geld bestimmten gegenseitigen Verpflichtungsverträge das Rückgrat des allgemeinen Gleichgewichts. Diese Nominalverträge schaffen simultan einerseits Forderungen und andererseits quantitativ gleiche Verbindlichkeiten auf der Grundlage von Haftung mit Eigentum. Sie liefern in einer unsicheren Wirtschaftswirklichkeit die notwendige und hinreichende Grundlage für gesicherte Entscheidungen über die Vermögenshaltung, die Ressourcenbeschäftigung, die Produktion von Gütern und deren Erwerb für Konsumzwecke. Wirtschaft ist aus dieser Sicht ein heute durch gesichertes Zentralbankgeld vermittelter und in Raum und Zeit stattfindender interinstitutioneller Prozess. Die Verkehrsmittel Geld, Kredit und Kapital verbinden darin über geregelte Märkte die Aktivitäten in den privaten und öffentlichen Haushalten mit denen in den Unternehmen und den nicht am Profitziel ausgerichteten Organisationen. Aus der nominalen Sicht ergibt sich ein für die wirtschaftenden Menschen fruchtbares Verständnis der in der Wirklichkeit beobachtbaren Handlungen. Die Nominalökonomik liefert ihnen Entscheidungsgrundlagen für die Gestaltung der Wirtschaftsabläufe. Diese neue Art, Wirtschaft zu verstehen, unterscheidet sich somit erfrischend von der Tradition, überkommene Konditionalsätze einer nur fiktiv begründeten optimalen Allokation in immer wieder neue Formen zu gießen.
