Diese ber hmte Corporation hielt nun wohl seine Arbeiten in der h chsten Achtung, war aber doch der Meinung, da seine Entdeckungen passende Gegenst nde zur Diseussion w ren, und ihr Seeret r theilte ihm demnach alle die Schriften, die zur Widerlegung seiner Ansichten geschrieben wurden, mit. Die erste derselben war von einem Iesuiten Namens Pardies, Professor der Mathematik zu Clermont, welcher behauptete, da die Verl ngerung res Sonnenbildes aus dem ungleichen Einfallswinkel der verschiedenen Strahlen auf die erste Seite des Prisma's entst nde, obgleich Newton in seiner Abhandlung bewiesen hatte, da dieses nicht der Fall sei. Im April 1672 schickte Newton an Oldenburg eine entscheidende Replik auf die Bemerkungen von Pa r dies; aber aufgebracht, sich besiegt zu sehen, nahm dieser I nger von Desea rtes eine neue Stellung an und behauptete, da die Verl ngerung/ des Bildes durch die Verbreitung des Lichtes nach Grimaldi' s Hypothes...
