Cet ouvrage a reçu le Prix de la Fondation du Docteur Carrière. Poète, journaliste, membre du groupe des Idéologues, musicographe, homme politique, Pierre-Louis Ginguené (1748-1816) est une personnalité-carrefour où s'entrecroisent les plus importantes tendances de la vie culturelle et politique française entre le déclin de l'Ancien régime et la période de la Révolution et de l'Empire. La reconstruction de son itinéraire biographique et intellectuel constitue l'objet de la première partie de cet ouvrage et sert d'introduction à l'étude de sa monumentale Histoire littéraire d'Italie, à laquelle sont consacrées les trois parties suivantes. Publiée en neuf volumes de 1811 à 1819, l'Histoire littéraire de Ginguené est non seulement la contribution la plus importante que la culture française ait consacrée à la littérature italienne au XIXe siècle, mais elle marque aussi un tournant fondamental dans l'histoire de l'historiographie littéraire. S'affranchissant des vieux schémas de l'histoire érudite, Ginguené élabore une nouvelle forme historiographique, fondée sur l'investigation « généalogique » des origines des formes et des genres et sur la mise en valeur des rapports entre le contexte historique et la réalité culturelle.

About the Author :
L'auteur: Attaché culturel auprès de l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Paris, Paolo Grossi a enseigné la langue et la littérature italiennes dans les universités d'Uppsale (Suède) et de Caen (France). Docteur ès lettres, ses publications scientifiques concernent la littérature italienne contemporaine ainsi que l'érudition et l'histoire littéraire au XVIIIe siècle en France et en Italie. Il dirige la collection d'études et textes « Quaderni dell'Hôtel de Galliffet » publiée par l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura de Paris.
