Este libro explora el componente primitivista del modernismo que informó la vanguardia europea de las tres primeras décadas del siglo XX, a traves de la obra de la pintora María Blanchard (1881-1932) y de su recepción. La reevaluación del papel y la contribución de la pintora al proyecto vanguardista se realiza mediante un examen crítico de la visión de escritores y críticos contemporáneos españoles y extranjeros que han configurado posteriores interpretaciones de su obra. La originalidad de esta investigación consiste en la combinación de un enfoque feminista con un estudio detallado e histórico del primitivismo y sus implicaciones, que sitúa la creatividad femenina en el centro de la historia cultural del modernismo en vez de los márgenes donde tradicionalmente se le ha relegado. El libro será un recurso esencial para el estudio de Blanchard y un modelo para comprender la participación de las mujeres en la vanguardia. Además, en su interrelación del arte y la literatura, el libro ofrece una nueva perspectiva sobre la ideología de la influyente generación del 1927 en España.

About the Author :
La autora: Xon de Ros es profesora de literatura moderna española en la Universidad de Oxford y miembro de Lady Margaret Hall. Ha publicado sobre una variedad de temas, desde cine a la poesía modernista con un interés en estudios interdisciplinarios e historia cultural. Recientemente ha coeditado (con Federico Bonaddio) dos colecciones de ensayos: Crossing Fields in Modern Spanish Culture (2003) y Words in Action (2006).
