Comment le bébé construit-il la réalité? Comment apprend-il à connaître et à utiliser conventionnellement les objets qui l'entourent durant la période qui précède l'avènement du langage? En s'interrogeant plus précisément sur la question de l'appropriation des usages canoniques des objets par le bébé entre 7 et 13 mois dans l'interaction avec autrui, les auteures reviennent sur la question de l'origine de la connaissance et de l'intelligence humaines, et notamment sur le rôle que la culture et la société jouent dans cette construction. Au fil des démonstrations - effectuées à l'aide de la sémiotique peircienne -, l'évidence est apportée de l'existence d'un développement sémiotique et donc culturellement orienté antérieur au développement langagier. Il apparaît en effet que l'entrée du bébé dans ce qui peut être qualifié comme l'un des tout premiers systèmes sémiotiques de la culture, le monde des objets quotidiens et leurs usages, se réalise au travers de la mise en signification des signes qu'autrui utilise intentionnellement dans le but de transmettre l'usage de l'objet à l'enfant. S'inscrivant dans le prolongement des oeuvres de Vygotski et de Bruner, outre qu'ils renouvellent l'approche du développement humain dès les prémices, ces travaux constituent une source d'information originale (tant au plan théorique, empirique que méthodologique) sur la question de la genèse sociale du psychisme. Ils intéressent les chercheurs et les professionnels dans les trois domaines cruciaux que sont la psychologie développementale, les sciences de l'éducation et la sémiotique conjugués ici dans l'approche du développement du jeune enfant.

About the Author :
Les auteurs: Christiane Moro est professeure en sciences de l'éducation à l'Université Nancy 2. Elle poursuit des travaux sur l'éducation et le développement du jeune enfant dans une perspective sémiotique et, à l'âge scolaire, sur l'enseignement-apprentissage du français oral. Depuis 2002, elle est directrice du laboratoire de recherche de sciences de l'éducation ERAEF de Nancy 2. Cintia Rodríguez est professeure à la Facultad de Formación de Profesorado y Educación de l'Université Autónoma de Madrid. Spécialisée dans la petite enfance, le développement du bébé avant le langage, ses recherches portent actuellement sur l'apparition et le développement des symboles chez l'enfant normal et à risque.
