Cette étude est consacrée aux pratiques imitatives qui continuent de caractériser un grand nombre d'oeuvres littéraires et de films issus de l'immigration dans la France postcoloniale. L'imitation de la culture française dans la production artistique des immigrants et de leurs descendants a généralement été interprétée de deux manières par les critiques: soit comme le signe d'un manque de talent et parfois aussi d'intégrité, soit comme un acte politique à travers lequel les artistes en question exprimeraient leur mécontentement par rapport à la société et à la politique françaises passées et présentes. L'intervention de ce livre consiste à mettre en relief un aspect souvent ignoré des pratiques imitatives, y compris le plagiat, à savoir leur dimension éthique. Les artistes dont l'oeuvre est analysée dans ce livre ont des liens avec le Vietnam, le Cameroun, l'Algérie, le Liban et la Tunisie.

About the Author :
Hélène Sicard-Cowan est titulaire d'une maîtirise en études germaniques de l'université de Nantes et d'un doctorat en lettres modernes de l'Université de Californie, à Berkeley. Elle est enseignante et chercheure indépendante. Elle a publié des essais sur les écrivains et cinéastes suivants: Azouz Begag, Calixthe Beyala, Abdellatif Kechiche, Lam Lê, Françoise de Graffigny, Virginie Despentes, Manuel Poirier, Gustave Flaubert et Charles Baudelaire. Ses intérêts de recherche portent sur l'immigration, ainsi que sur l'environnement, dans la littérature et le cinéma de langue française.
