Ma è proprio vero che il giallo italiano partorisce unicamente noir parodici e metaletterari? Sfatando questo cliché, Noir de Noir attesta anche l'obiettivo principale dei noiristi italiani: scrivere un 'romanzo sociale' che vada 'oltre' i precetti del genere d'inchiesta. A tale scopo il volume adotta un approccio pluridisciplinare, che misura il successo del noir mediterraneo a partire dalle vendite e dalle strategie di mercato, ma non solo. All'analisi del fenomeno, concorrono infatti svariate prospettive: da quella storica del primo boom degli anni Trenta, alle categorie metatestuali quali impegno, memoria, ontologia della morte e utopia, passando per l'aiuto di modelli interpretativi e seriali, e mettendo a fuoco la trasposizione da/a fumetto, cinema e televisione. Dal confronto a 360 gradi risulta che le conclusioni non possono che essere paradossali: il realismo del noir viene ottenuto grazie alla sua stereotipizzazione generica, la 'controinformazione' diventa effettiva grazie alle varie comunità di lettori raggiunti con intelligenti metodi di marketing. L'esempio chiave è Massimo Carlotto, autore al centro di molti contributi e che ha partecipato a questo volume con un racconto inedito. Fra gli autori trattati, compaiono, tra gli altri, Giancarlo De Cataldo, Loriano Macchiavelli, Gianni Farinetti, Giampaolo Simi, Marcello Fois, Margherita Oggero, Santo Piazzese, Grazia Verasani e Alessandro Perissinotto, presente per l'occasione anche in veste di saggista.
