About the Book

This book presents the outcomes of the work of RILEM TC 292‑MCC and serves as a comprehensive review of Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC), a class of cement-based composites distinguished by their light weight, ductility, and high tensile performance. Advances in textile technology tailored for cementitious matrices have enabled the development of composites exhibiting strength increases of up to one order of magnitude and ductility improvements of up to two orders of magnitude compared with conventional fiber‑reinforced concrete. Ongoing research and industrial innovation continue to expand the possibilities of TRC through novel fabrics, optimized matrices, and advanced manufacturing processes. These materials are increasingly used in applications requiring high fatigue and impact resistance, as well as in industrial and transportation infrastructure. Their post‑cracking behavior is characterized by sustained stress capacity over large strain ranges, enabled by reduced stiffness and effective crack‑bridging mechanisms. The book provides an in‑depth examination of TRC materials, addressing production methodologies, mechanical behavior, bond mechanisms, constitutive modelling, structural performance under various actions, retrofitting strategies, durability, and sustainability. It is intended as a valuable resource for graduate students, engineers, researchers, and practitioners.

About the Author :
Flávio de Andrade Silva is an associate professor and the head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil. He is the deputy chair of the RILEM Technical Committee 292 MCC and a member of several technical committees in ACI and RILEM. His research interests include high-performance fiber-reinforced cementitious composites, sustainable materials, cement pastes for oil well applications, durability of cement-based materials, and integration of advanced construction materials to improve structural performance. He is the author of more than 170 journal articles and has directed several state-of-the-art research projects and industry contracts. Barzin Mobasher is a Professor of Structural Materials at Arizona State University since 1991. He has led research programs in the design, analysis, and experimental evaluation of materials and full-scale structures. His publications include two books on fiber and textile-reinforced concrete, seven edited books, and more than 240 research papers in leading professional journals. He has served as the chair of the American Concrete Institute, ACI committee 544 on Fiber Reinforced Concrete, and Chair of RILEM Committee of Mechanical Properties of TRC (292-MCC), as well as a member of TAC and a fellow of both ACI and RILEM.
