This book presents recent advances in evolutionary and deterministic methods for design, optimization, and control in real-world engineering. Topics include multi-objective optimization, machine learning, shape and topology design, and uncertainty quantification. It features selected contributions from EUROGEN 2025, held at LUT University in Lahti, Finland, from September 16–18, 2025. This book serves as a timely reference for researchers, engineers, and graduate students in computational design and applied optimization.
Table of Contents:
Part I – Plenary Presentations.- Part II – Adjoint-Based Shape Optimization.- Part III – Machine Learning and Data-Driven Methods.- Part IV – Multi-Objective Optimization.- Part V – Parameter Estimation and Optimal Control.

Hämäläinen was a member of the industrial advisory committee in EUROGEN 2001, EUROGEN 2003, and ECCOMAS 2004, and a member of the international scientific committee in ECCOMAS CFD 2010 as well as ECCOMAS CM3 in 2015, 2023, and 2025. He has two book chapters (2008 and 2023) in Springer books. He has several conference proceedings papers in ECCOMAS conferences since 2000.
Amadi was a member of the local organizing committees for the 2023 Bayes Comp Conference in Levi, Finland, and the 2019 COST Action IMAAC Conference at the University of Helsinki. She has one conference proceedings paper published in the ECMI 2021 volume by Springer and participated in its peer review.
Gauger has served on several international scientific and steering committees, including the ERCOFTAC Special Interest Group on Design Optimization, and he is a member of the Managing Board of ERCOFTAC. He has co-edited multiple volumes in the Computational Methods in Applied Sciences Springer book series and contributed extensively to conference proceedings of AIAA, ECCOMAS, and related international events. He was also involved in the ECCOMAS 2004 congress and has co-authored multiple book chapters and conference papers in multidisciplinary optimization.
Giannakoglou has played a leading role in the organization and scientific leadership of major international conferences in CFD and optimization. He served on the scientific and organizing committees of EUROGEN (2001–2013), as well as ECCOMAS and WCCM, often chairing sessions in these conferences. He has co-edited Springer volumes in the Computational Methods in Applied Sciences series and special issues of international journals on topics such as aerodynamic shape optimization and high-performance computing. His group at NTUA is a key contributor to the EUROGEN community.
Periaux co-founded and has continuously served on the scientific and organizing committees of the EUROGEN conference series since the 1990s. He has also organized and supported multiple ECCOMAS Thematic Conferences, as well as events under UNESCO and CIMNE. He has co-edited over 30 volumes of conference proceedings and books, including several in the Springer Computational Methods in Applied Sciences series. His work includes coordinating peer review and editorial processes for proceedings from EUROGEN, ECCOMAS, and related events.
