About the Book

This book deepens understanding and practice in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT has been widely researched for its effectiveness with suicidal and self-injuring individuals and across a range of populations and treatment settings. This volume brings together overlooked topics offering clinicians guidance in the application of this nuanced therapy. It explores populations underrepresented in the literature and additional advanced applications. Designed for DBT practitioners seeking to extend and refine their clinical work, this volume strengthens evidence-based practice and promotes effective treatment.

"Advancing Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a wonderful contribution to the burgeoning DBT literature. Bonavitacola's expertly edited volume captures the evolution, creativity, and principle-based rigor of DBT. She has assembled an extraordinary group of contributors who balance fidelity to DBT's roots with innovation across diverse populations, modalities, and treatment stages. This volume will be indispensable for clinicians, trainers, students, and researchers committed to helping clients build lives worth living—and to ensuring that DBT continues to grow with wisdom and precision."

- Shireen Rizvi, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Montefiore Einstein

"This timely volume, edited by Bonavitacola with chapters by DBT experts, beautifully articulates the evolving landscape of DBT. It is full of clinical gems and case examples, adaptations to additional populations, exploration of advanced treatment targets, and much more. It opens doors to new perspectives that will open your eyes, strengthening your therapy skill set."

- Charles Swenson, M.D., Associate Professor, UMass Medical School

"Bonavitacola's edited volume provides an important resource for today's clinician while also pushing the field forward with clarity, creativity, and clinical precision. This book describes culturally responsive adaptations and novel chapters that may further enhance client engagement and accessibility to DBT. This book fills a longstanding gap providing practical guidance for later stages of treatment—areas often overlooked in traditional DBT texts. This is a must-read for clinicians interested in delivering DBT at the highest level."

- Dr. Alec L. Miller, Co-Founder, Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants
