About the Book

This book is part of a four-volume set designed to provide students, engineers, and researchers with advanced knowledge for the design and development of architectured materials engineered to control radiative heat transfer in energy-related applications. The series is based on 14 written courses delivered during the CNRS thematic school MATTER (Architectured Materials for the Control of Radiative Heat Transfer: From Material Elaboration Processes to Industrial Applications), held from May 10-15, 2022, and organized by the French research network TAMARYS. This second volume focuses on the experimental and modeling approaches required to determine the radiative properties of materials across multiple scales and at very high temperatures. It presents key complex dielectric functions for computing intrinsic optical properties, key measurement techniques, methods for identifying radiative parameters, and multiscale models linking microscopic structures to macroscopic radiative behavior. Special attention is given to high-temperature applications where accurate radiative data is essential

Table of Contents:
Radiative properties of homogeneous materials.- Characterization methods: an emittance measurement device.- Microscopic mechanisms at the origin of absorption/emission and relationships with measured quantities.- Extraction of optical functions.-Thermoradiative properties of heterogeneous materials.- Heterogeneous materials and radiative transfers.- Beerian radiative transport and key radiative quantities.- Statistical description of heterogeneous materials.- Wave-matter interaction.- Prediction of thermal-radiative properties.- Identification of radiative properties of heterogeneous materials.-.Characterization of radiative quantities of homogeneous materials.

About the Author :

B. Rousseau is a CNRS senior researcher since 2016; after joining the CNRS in 2003 as a research fellow. He received a PhD diploma in Material Sciences from the University of Orleans, France in 2001 and an accreditation diploma to supervise research (HDR) in Energy Science in 2010 (same University). The main research activity of B. Rousseau consists in the multi-scale modelling of the thermal radiative properties of any heterogeneous media by using 3D digitalized images. Typical applications cover the development of heat exchangers, volumetric solar absorbers, planar black bodies for infrared heating. He is the director since 2019 of the French CNRS Research Group TAMARYS which gathers 27 academic laboratories, 10 industrial partners such as ArianeGroup, CEA, Engie, Mersen, Solvay and TotalEnergies. He is the scientific director of the spring thematic school MATTER funded by CNRS (May 15 to 20, 2022 ). He is the author of 61 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 25 international proceedings with peer-reviewed committees and several patents and software declarations.

F. Enguehard is a University Full Professor since 2016. After receiving a PhD diploma in heat transfer from Ecole Centrale Paris (France) in 1991, he joined Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal (Canada) first as a postdoc student for one year and then as a research associate for five years. During this period, his research interests focused on the generation and detection of elastic waves within solids by all-optical techniques. He was then employed by the French Atomic Energy Commission (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA)) from 1998 to 2011, and worked first as a research engineer and later as a senior expert in the field of modeling of various transport phenomena within heterogeneous media over various length scales. He received anaccreditation diploma to supervise research (HDR) in heat transfer in 2007 from the University of Poitiers (France). In 2012, he was appointed Professor at CentraleSupélec (France), and from 2012 to 2018 his research activities concerned radiative heat transfer within non-Beerian media and interaction of radiation with sub-wavelength complex-shaped objects. In 2018, he joined the University of Poitiers, and he is currently continuing his research in the fields of non-Beerian media and sub-wavelength objects. His research interests also concern the modeling of conduction-radiation coupling within heterogeneous media by all-stochastic techniques.

S. Foucaud is a full-Professor of University since 2013 (50 publications, number of citations: 1653); after joining the University of Limoges in 2001 as an assistant professor. She received a PhD diploma in Material Sciences from the University of Limoges, France in 1999 and an accreditation diploma to supervise research (HDR) in Energy Science in 2010 (same University). Her research activities focus on the development of ceramic materials for use in severe conditions (high temperature, aggressive fluids etc.). In January 2015, she took over the responsibility of the "Ceramics under Environmental Constraints" research axis of the lRCER (21 permanent staff and 30 PhD students/post-docs and CDDs). Sylvie Foucaud already has a solid experience in project management due to her participation in several projects as a partner (FUI ASFODEL project, New Aquitaine NA Region projects) and as a project leader, one project funded by the ANR (2012 edition PRC COllZSiC) and one project funded by the NA Region (2019 - EXOFAB) She is a member of the scientific council of the CNRS INC.
