About the Book

This book reviews the latest water quality protection and water resources development strategies in Algeria. It covers topics such as the assessment and prediction of water quality, salt-water intrusion, treatment of wastewater for reuse, and desalination as an alternative source of water. The methods presented in this book can also be applied in other regions with similar climate conditions. Together with the companion volume Water Resources in Algeria - Part I: Assessment of Surface and Groundwater Resources, this book provides researchers with essential reference material on tools and techniques for water quality assessment, treatment, reuse, desalination, protection, and development, and offers a valuable resource for engineers, graduate students and policymakers who are interested in sustainable water resources.

Table of Contents:
Introduction to “Water Resources in Algeria: Water Quality, Treatment, Protection and Development”.- Predicting Water Quality Indicators from Conventional and Non-Conventional Water Resources in Algeria Country: Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems Versus Artificial Neural Networks.- Organic Chemical Characterization of Water of the Nortwestern Algerian Dams.- Wastewater reuse for irrigation purposes: The case of Aïn Témouchent Region.- Protection of water resources in mining sites in Northeast of Algeria.- Physicochemical and bacteriological quality of surface water resources receiving common wastewater effluents in drylands of Algeria.- Valorization of Oily Sludge in Arzew Refinery.- Kalman Filter For Spatio-Temporal Modeling And Prediction of Algerian Water Resources Variability: Case study of precipitation and stream flows at monthly and annual scales.- Hydrograph flood forecasting in the catchment of the middle Cheliff.- Overview of Water Resources in Steppe Regions in Algeria.- Water resources, state of play, and Development Prospects in the Steppe Region of Naâma (Western Algeria).- Desalination in Algeria: Photovoltaic power plant for TMM (Tahlyat Myah Magtaa) of Oran as a case study.- Update, Conclusions, and Recommendations for Water Resources in Algeria: Water Quality, Treatment, Protection, and Development.

About the Author :
Prof. Abdelazim Negm is a professor of Water Resources at the Faculty of Engineering, Zagazig University, Egypt, since 2004. He was the vice dean of the Faculty of Engineering of ZU from 12/2008 to 12/2011 and was the head of the Environmental Engineering Dept. at Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST), Egypt 10/2013 to 9/2015. He has participated in several international projects since 200, and published more than 300 articles in national and international journals and conferences. Dr. Abdelkader Bouderbala is an assistant professor at the University of Chlef. He worked in many companies of hydrogeology for more than 10 years as an engineer. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Hydraulic at Earth Sciences Department, University of Khemis-Miliana (Algeria). His research interests mainly focus on the geophysical techniques applied in hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, and hydrogeology, evaluation of seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers, pollution in agricultural areas, groundwater resources management, groundwater vulnerability assessment to pollution. Dr. Haroun Chenchouni is an Associate Professor at The Department of Natural and Life Sciences, University of Tebessa, Algeria. He is an ecologist with research interest focusing on the study of the population and community dynamics in natural and manmade North African ecosystems. He uses statistical modelling approaches to understand how natural environments and anthropogenic perturbations affect biological interactions, population dynamics and influence community diversity. Prof. Damià Barceló is a Full Research Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Studies IDAEA-CSIC and has been Head of the Environmental Chemistry Department (Barcelona, Spain) since 1999 and Director of the Catalan Instituteof Water Research (ICRA) (Girona, Spain) since May 2008. Since 2011 he has been chairman of the Scientific and Technological Board (STB) of the European Union-Joint Programming Initiative on "Water Challenges for a Changing World". His scientific focus is on method development and monitoring of priority, new, and emerging pollutants, in particular in water quality assessment and management. He is the series co-editor of The Handbook of Environmental Chemistry.
