About the Book

All fashion designers must have an understanding of fabrics and what their properties are to allow them to choose the right fabric for their designs. Basics Fashion Design 02: Textiles and Fashion by Jenny Udale is a guide to the use of textiles within fashion design. The book examines the entire process of creating and using fashion textiles. It discusses the practical processes involved, including information on fibre production, dyeing and finishing, as well as construction techniques such as weaving and knitting. Various surface treatments are explored, as well as the way in which colour and trend influences fashion and textiles. The book also includes a section in which fashion and textile designers discuss their production processes and how they use textiles in their work. This title is suitable for first year students of fashion design, textile and other fashion-related subjects, as well as professional creatives and those with an interest in the process of fashion design, from concept to execution, seeking to develop and improve their design skills.

Review :
Very informative, with good detail regarding fabrics and furnishings. I would recommend it as it is accessible for students and compares well to other texts as it makes use of design applications. Excellent addition to the series, students find it very user friendly. Contemporary information/text. A really useful book for explaining the use of textiles and surface design ... Very good combination of information and examples - very pleasing visually and perfect for interesting art students. Contemporary, inspiring images and fashion sketches. Good presentation ideas. Good case studies. Relevant because it covers all points on textile composition, design points and illustrations. Modern styles, visually stimulating. Easy to follow explanations of fabrics and fibres. Again, another exciting layout: Totally engaging, great student appeal and fabulous visuals. Another great, student friendly resource! The book is very interesting and is especially suitable for our younger Extended Diploma Students who need to grasp an initial overview of how you can work in the Industry and start developing your skills. An essential introduction to the subject, providing a comprehensive reference for students. Considering the great photos and wealth of information, this is definitely one to add to your personal library, especially for the price.
