En décembre 1972, le premier ouvrage des Éditions d'Acadie est lancé, un tout petit recueil d'un animateur communautaire gauchiste: Cri de terre de Raymond Guy LeBlanc. Aujourd'hui, le milieu littéraire acadien identifie cette publication avec l'émergence de la modernité en Acadie. Et l'année 1972 comme l'année culturelle de référence. Pourquoi ? Pourquoi cette manifestation - une publication - a-t-elle été si porteuse, bien au-delà de l'ouvrage lui-même ? À force de creuser cette question, David Lonergan s'est aperçu que plusieurs poèmes de Cri de terre avaient été publiés en août 1969 dans la revue Liberté à l'occasion d'un « spécial » Acadie. Que 1969 avait également été marquée par la dernière vague de manifestations étudiantes commencées l'année précédente, ce dont témoigne le film L'Acadie, l'Acadie de Michel Brault et Pierre Perrault. Qu'en 1972, Raymond LeBlanc est un pianiste qui accompagne les chansonniers, Herménégilde Chiasson est un artiste visuel qui écrit de la poésie, Léonard Forest, un cinéaste et poète, que Jacques Savoie compose aussi bien des poèmes que des chansons... David Lonergan démontre, dans Acadie 72, comment la naissance des Éditions d'Acadie marque l'aboutissement d'une suite d'événements, d'un ensemble de démarches commencées plusieurs années auparavant et qui convergent vers ce point unique. Chaque événement est ici présenté dans son contexte et en lien avec ce qui a précédé.

About the Author :
Québécois de naissance et Acadien d'adoption, David Lonergan a enseigné au secondaire (1966-1975), cofondé deux troupes de théâtre professionnel (La Famille Corriveau à Longueuil, 1973-1977; Pince-Farine en Gaspésie, 1978-1992) pour lesquelles il écrit (seul ou en collectif) une vingtaine de pièces dont Les Otages (1987). Parallèlement, il travaille dans des journaux, à la radio et à la télévision, et publie divers ouvrages dont Blanche (roman, 1989) et La Bolduc, la vie de Mary Travers (1992). En 1994, il déménage à Moncton où il travaille pour différents organismes culturels. Depuis 2001, il enseigne le journalisme et l'histoire du théâtre à l'Université de Moncton. Il a publié La création à coeur: l'histoire du théâtre l'Escaouette (2000), L'homme qui était sans couleurs (2003), et participé à la création d'Ode à l'Acadie (2004) comme recherchiste et auteur des textes. Depuis novembre 1994, il tient une chronique sur la production culturelle acadienne dans le quotidien L'Acadie Nouvelle, et a publié plusieurs articles sur la littérature.
