Le cours Alexandre Dumas accueille cette annee 108 enfants, de la maternelle a la 3e. L'ecole est situee a Montfermeil, a deux pas de Clichy-sous-Bois et de la cite des Bosquets ou avaient debute en 2005 des emeutes qui avaient embrase les banlieues. Dix ans plus tard le quartier a change, et l'ecole en prefabrique fait partie de ce vaste chantier. Elle a pour devise: Eduquer, Instruire, Cultiver, Orienter, des mots qui trouvent un echo particulier ici. L'enjeu est considerable: redonner le gout d'apprendre a des eleves descolarises ou demotives, s'adapter a chaque enfant en fonction de son parcours et de son rythme, creer de l'harmonie au sein de classes diverses avec des enfants venant de tous les horizons. Alberic de Serrant nous raconte avec la passion qui l'anime la genese de cette aventure exceptionnelle, comment cette ecole est nee, qui sont les professeurs qui l'animent avec lui, leurs parcours atypiques, leur vocation, quelles methodes ont ete testees et retenues, quelles regles se sont imposees pour structurer la journee des eleves. Les rituels ont toute leur importance: chaque lundi dans la cour de l'ecole les objectifs de la semaine sont enonces par le directeur, chaque matin dans cette meme cour les eleves, en uniforme, assistent a la levee du drapeau, chaque midi pour les eleves, apres le repas (prepare par les parents), c'est le temps des services vaisselle, coup de balai dans la cour, chaque soir le directeur rend ses avis toujours devant l'ensemble des eleves... Le cours Alexandre Dumas fait partie de ces ecoles qui changent la vie des eleves, qui fait naitre des vocations, des passions, la curiosite. Alberic de Serrant nous raconte son parcours, celui d'un eleve confronte a l'echec et aux fautes d'orthographe, celui d'un homme qui devait devenir pretre et qui est finalement mari et pere de cinq enfants, celui d'un directeur qui doute, qui cherche, et qui parvient a denicher le talent que chaque enfant a en lui.
