Il met à nu le style français qui étonne souvent, ainsi ces chapitres sur les règles de politesse françaises quand on est invité, sur le langage secret des fleurs... Nous pénétrons dans l'univers de la mode, depuis l'invention de la mode depuis le jeans et le t-shirt jusqu'à la haute couture et nous finissons pat le statut de la femme, qui remonte au moyen-Âge, avec l'invention de la galanterie et de l'amour courtois dans les joutes, la sexualité française et l'amour, qui différencie érotisme et pornographie et révèle le sens de " faire l'amour". Le philosophe nous conduit ensuite à la découverte de cet empire de 11 millions de km2 qui diffuse ce mode de vie, présent sur les 5 continents, de la Polynésie aux îles Kerguelen, né de la concurrence sur les mers avec les Espagnols, les Portugais, les Anglais les Néerlandais. Il nous raconte en chemin la véritable histoire de France, depuis les Gaulois jusqu'à Clovis et Charlemagne qui l'ont constituée comme nation sur l'assimilation des valeurs. Une balade qui se poursuit entre Marianne et son coq, terrible et vaniteux, entre les incessantes querelles de clocher et le goût de la justice sociale et de l'égalité, jusqu'à la terreur et Bonaparte, mais aussi jusqu'aux aux french doctors, aux soldats de la liberté et de Gaulle. Une histoire qui mêle passion des droits de l'Homme et de la liberté avec colonialisme, esclavagisme et impérialisme. Avant de nous révéler, à la fin, après avoir pisté la séduction culturelle de ce pays malgré ses crises et ses ambiguités, le secret de la potion magique française.
