About the Book

Le Paradoxe des Automnes retrace, à travers les yeux d'un enfant, la vie dans un restaurant isolé au coeur de la forêt de Fontainebleau dans les années 1970. Loin de la ville, au contact de la nature, des chiens, des clients de passage et d'une famille en tension, il développe un regard à la fois lucide et poétique sur son environnement. Le roman s'articule autour d'une succession de scènes du quotidien, d'impressions d'enfance et de moments-clés, le retrait des petites roues du vélo, l'apprentissage de la lecture, un tournage manqué, un accident de cheval. Le père, chaleureux et libre, incarne la légèreté. La mère, cultivée mais usée par la charge mentale, s'efface peu à peu, piégée dans une spirale de prescriptions erronées et d'épuisement psychique. Cette dérive intime, vécue à hauteur d'enfant, révèle les failles d'un système médical dépassé et les effets dévastateurs d'une solitude domestique imposée. Le départ de Franchard n'apaisera rien. L'écart grandit entre les parents. L'amour résiste, mais le déséquilibre s'installe. Sans pathos, avec tendresse et justesse, le roman dessine une fresque familiale où l'enfant, au centre, observe les adultes s'effondrer sans bruit. Le récit avance par touches, motifs répétés (la forêt, le travail, la meute), captant les ambiguïtés d'un âge où l'on ne comprend pas tout mais où l'on ressent déjà beaucoup. Devenu adulte, le narrateur revient sur cette enfance fondatrice et les fractures qu'elle a laissées. En filigrane, une question persiste: "que reste-t-il quand l'histoire n'a pas été dite, quand les silences ont fait oeuvre de vérité ?"
