Les combats pour la justice l'ont conduit a soutenir et accueillir les victimes des dictatures, a defendre par la fondation de l'ACAT, les personnes arretees et torturees partout dans le monde, a accueillir SDF et Roms... Ce temoignage montre le souci constant chez Pierre Toulat de l'ecoute des autres, une volonte d'engager sa vie dans le service de l'homme, et a travers eux de Dieu. NOTICE BIOGRAPHIQUE DE PIERRE TOULAT Une vie d'homme, c'est un temps a evoquer, c'est une personne a rencontrer, c'est une existence inexprimable en son fond... Cette histoire est pourtant communicable a travers le souvenir des contemporains et le temoignage de la personne. Quatrieme enfant d'un pere notaire, Pierre Toulat est ne a Chauvigny le 20 fevrier 1922, apres Jacques, notaire egalement et maire de Chauvigny pendant 40 ans, Madeleine, sa s ur, epouse Marolleau, et Jean, pretre et journaliste. Il a fait ses etudes primaires a l'ecole communale de Chauvigny suivi du secondaire au College Saint Stanislas de Poitiers. Marque par le scoutisme, en particulier, sa promesse prononcee le 8 decembre 1935, qui lui a donne le sens du service, il est entre, a 16 ans, au Seminaire Saint Sulpice a Issy les Moulineaux, en Seine et Oise. Il a ete ordonne pretre a Poitiers le 9 mai 1944. Son ministere sacerdotal a debute a Montmorillon, puis a la paroisse Montierneuf de Poitiers, avant l'insertion dans une equipe de pretres en milieu rural; il connut la JAC et devint successivement aumonier dans le diocese puis au plan national. Une deuxieme periode de sa vie est consacree a la formation des pretres, aux niveaux interdiocesain et national. Elle est suivie par diverses responsabilites aupres de la Conference des Eveques de France, en particulier, le Secretariat de la Commission Sociale et la fondation de la Commission Episcopale Justice et Paix France dont il est reste secretaire pendant 19 ans. S'amorce ensuite une courte etape d'activites d'edition: Redacteur en chef de la revue du CIEMI, Migrations & societes et collaborateur de la revue de la Concile. Des engagements divers et nombreux occupent la retraite a Fontenay-sous-Bois. A 90 ans, des problemes de sante limitent son autonomie et l'amenent a decider de rejoindre la maison des pretres ages de son diocese d'origine ou il retrouve plusieurs confreres dans le sacerdoce. L'itineraire de Pierre suit et accompagne les principaux evenements du XXeme siecle et du debut du XXIeme, politiques, sociaux, techniques, culturels, religieux, depuis l'entre-deux guerre et la seconde guerre mondiale jusqu'a l'election du Pape Francois, longue periode ou il a occupe des fonctions importantes. Cela fait de lui un temoin en notre temps."
