Une connaissance approfondie de l'anatomie et de la biomécanique articulaire permet d'aborder rationnellement la pathogénie des affections dégénératives ou d'usure de l'épaule ainsi que leurs traitements - préventif ou précoce - sous forme d'une kinésithérapie spécifique ou d'interventions chirurgicales plus conservatrices. Cette connaissance est utile également, pour imaginer une issue logique à des situations inhabituelles, non répertoriées, voire indispensable dans la conception d'équivalents fonctionnels que sont les arthroplasties aux différents stades de la dégradation articulaire. Cet ouvrage est le fruit d'une collaboration étroite entre un chirurgien et un kinésithérapeute qui se sont efforcés, durant quinze ans, de trouver des réponses, sinon des explications plausibles aux questions que leur posait la pratique professionnelle quotidienne. En dehors d'une synthèse de notions classiques d'anatomie fonctionnelle et de biomécanique de l'épaule, les auteurs proposent, de la théorie aux applications, une vision souvent personnelle: - une redéfinition fonctionnelle de la coiffe des rotateurs; - une conception pathogénique originale du conflit antéro-supérieur de l'épaule - différente de celle de Neer; - une approche clinique des contraintes qui pèsent sur la gléno-humérale ainsi qu'une théorie pathogénique de l'omarthrose qui en découle; - une synthèse du traitement conservateur par réharmonisation, ou compensation musculaire sur la base des données fondamentales qui ont été exposées. Le Professeur Blaimont, titulaire honoraire de l'enseignement d'orthopédie-traumatologie à l'université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) et cofondateur du centre interdisciplinaire de biomécanique osseuse (CIBO), est l'auteur de nombreuses publications concernant des travaux expérimentaux de biomécanique ostéo-articulaire, réalisés pour la plupart, en collaboration avec le Professeur Halleux, ingénieur et directeur du laboratoire de Résistance des matériaux (ULB). Monsieur Taheri, licencié en kinésithérapie (ULB), s'est largement impliqué dans la recherche expérimentale et clinique sur l'épaule; depuis dix ans, il y consacre l'essentiel de sa pratique professionnelle. Ce livre s'adresse aux spécialistes en orthopédie-traumatologie, kinésithérapie, médecine physique et rhumatologie.
