J'ai vu peu a peu se dessiner et s'imposer a mon esprit une sorte de retable, en forme de triptyque deploye en desordre: a gauche, les deux epopees antiques revisitees; au centre, un vaste paysage francais representant deux siecles successifs qui finissent par se fracasser l'un l'autre, l'un au nom de la gloire, l'autre au nom du bonheur. A droite, les deux romans, tous deux russes, qui se portent le mieux temoins de la guerre moderne et contemporaine, prevue et theorisee par le prussien Clausewitz, mais preparee en France dans les deux derniers siecles Bourbon, par des philosophes, theoriciens militaires, mais aussi par des peintres, sculpteurs et graveurs divorces des delices rocaille , tenues desormais pour incompatibles avec la vertu, le patriotisme et la liberte de citoyens a l'antique . Mais commencons par le milieu du triptyque, avant de ramener l'oeil interieur du lecteur du cote de l'Antique, puis du cote de la modernite industrielle, manoeuvre operee avec la liberte et la vitesse de livres que l'on retire sur l'etagere de la bibliotheque, ou ils se trouvent juxtaposes sans tenir compte de l'ordre chronologique de leur parution. M. F.Dans ces echappees politiques et litteraires d'Homere a Grossman, Marc Fumaroli (1932-2020) nous convie a une meditation historique sur la paix et la guerre en Europe. Magistral essai posthume, Dans ma bibliotheque propose un nouveau regard sur le monde actuel tout aussi lucide et desillusionne que celui de Paul Valery et ou la surete du savoir est servie par toutes les ressources de l'eloquence.

Il a egalement renouvele en profondeur la perception et l'etude de Chateaubriand. Contributor Biography - French Pierre Laurens, membre de l'Institut, professeur emerite a la Sorbonne ou il a occupe la chaire de Litterature latine de la Renaissance, est l'auteur de nombreux ouvrages, dont: Anthologie grecque, Livre IX, deuxieme partie, et X (1974 et 2011); MusAe reduces (1975); Baltasar Gracian, La Pointe ou l'Art du genie, trad. (1983); le Commentaire sur le Banquet de Platon de Marsile Ficin, ed. et trad. (2002); l'Africa de Petrarque, ed. Et trad. (2006); Anthologie de la poesie lyrique latine de la Renaissance (2004); La derniere Muse latine, Douze lectures poetiques, de Claudien a la generation baroque (2008); L'age de l'inscription (2010); L'Abeille dans l'ambre (1989, edition revue et augmentee 2012).
