Un homme, au faite de sa carriere, decide de rompre pour un temps avec la vie qui fut la sienne et s'installe dans une "chartreuse," loin de tous et de toutes, loin de ses preoccupations jusqu'alors quotidiennes, du monde de la communication et de la culture, loin de tout ce qui fit son quotidien - et son miel - des annees durant. Sans nouvelles du monde, lui qui ne pouvait entamer une journee sans se gaver d'informations, il va decouvrir une nouvelle vie, faite de silence et de meditation. Fausse autobiographie mais vraie presence. Tout est vrai, sauf l'imaginaire. Le resultat est un livre ecrit d'une main alerte. Un etonnant regard sur l'inconscient, non plus seulement d'un homme singulier, mais d'une epoque tout entiere. La notre. Apres avoir passe vingt ans au Conseil d'Etat, puis sous Pompidou dirige le cabinet du ministre de la Culture, Jacques Duhamel, Jacques Rigaud est aujourd'hui PDG de RTL, et president de Admical, une association qui promeut le mecenat dans le monde des entreprises. Il est l'auteur de plusieurs livres dont la Culture pour vivre (1990), Miroir des mots (1991), le Benefice de l'age (Grasset, 1993) et l'Exception culturelle (Grasset, 1995). Un balcon sur le temps est son premier roman.

Ancien directeur du cabinet de Jacques Duhamel, ministre des affaires culturelles de Pompidou, ancien PDG de RTL et president de l'Association des centres culturels de rencontre, Jacques Rigaud est l'auteur de plusieurs essais comme La Culture pour vivre (Gallimard, 1975), Libre culture (Gallimard, 1990), l'Exception culturelle (Grasset, 1995) Les Deniers du reve (2001), et de recits plus litteraires et autobiographiques comme Le Benefice de l'age (Grasset, 1993), Un Balcon sur le temps (Grasset, 1999) dont le present ouvrage est le prolongement.
