Luc Marsaint et Louis Toureil, fondateurs des editions de la Gorgone, une petite maison de publications regionalistes situee a Peyrepertuze, ont retrouve des textes de Benjamin Cooker rediges en feuilleton en 1975 et 1976 dans l'edition dominicale de l'Echo des Corbieres. L'oenologue etait alors age de 21 ans et n'a pas garde un souvenir tres precis de ces ecrits de jeunesse. Il recoit une proposition d'edition de ses textes, les relit avec emotion et en avise son editeur Claude Nithard, qui donne son accord. Cooker accepte de rediger une longue preface et propose de suivre a nouveau son ancien periple pour etayer ses commentaires. Il emmene son assistant Virgile dans les bagages et s'installe dans un hotel de Durban-Corbieres, sous un ciel menacant. Mais Jerome Severino, un des principaux auteurs du catalogue des editions de la Gorgone, est retrouve ecrase par un moellon lors du glissement de terrain qui a fissure sa maison. Pour honorer la memoire de leur auteur, Marsaint et Toureil veulent poursuivre son combat et federer ses partisans, alors que les viticulteurs de l'appellation songent avant tout a panser les plaies du vignobles. Tirailles entre la bonne foi vindicative des editeurs et le courage de tous les viticulteurs du pays, Cooker et Virgile (eux-memes animes par un leger differend ideologique sur la position a tenir dans ce conflit) essaient d'adopter une attitude neutre, particulierement difficile a tenir. D'autant plus que l'autopsie de Geronimo et plusieurs indices viennent bientot refuter la these de l'accident et confirmer qu'il a bel et bien ete assassine
