Diane Allard a tout pour etre comblee. Journaliste vedette a la television, elle presente le 20 heures et une emission d'investigation. Mere d'une ado et d'un garcon autiste, elle a bataille pour les elever seule, sans son premier amour, reporter de guerre mort lors d'un accident en Irak. Mais Diane a trouve en Henri, son second mari, le reconfort chaleureux d'un haut fonctionnaire, issu des meilleures familles, qui sait l'aimer et lui offrir la vie dont elle a toujours reve. A plus de 50 ans et a force de travail et d'obstination, elle a reussi sa carriere et sa vie de famille. Et si tout cela etait trop beau ? Et si elle n'etait pas vraiment a sa place, comme le rabache sa comtesse de belle-mere ? Car Diane va tout faire derailler. Elle decide de consacrer une de ses emissions a l'attitude de la SNCF et des cheminots pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Sur le plateau, les historiens font voler en eclats le mythe des cheminots unanimement resistants et indiquent clairement que des gestes isoles de resistance ne peuvent occulter la responsabilite globale de la SNCF, ne peuvent faire oublier ces milliers de trains de la deportation qui sont toujours partis a l'heure. La polemique qui fait aussitot rage prend Diane de court et la depasse: menacee de mort, mise a pied, la journaliste se trouve seule et incomprise. Et c'est son equilibre et sa vie, amoureuse, familiale, amicale, qui valsent. Diane Allard doit affronter une nouvelle epreuve, et non des moindres: rester fidele a elle-meme et se remettre sur les rails du bonheur...
