A Lyon, au bord de la Saone, une pension de famille baptisee Le Cube Blanc, habitee de personnages pittoresques, mariniers et humbles travailleurs, voit entrer un soir un inquietant voyageur sans bagage. II est ruisselant de pluie et semble accable. Il demande a etre pensionnaire et dit s'appeler Noname, c'est-a-dire Monsieur Personne. Son etrange comportement alimente les conversations des pensionnaires et seme le trouble chez la tenanciere de l'etablissement. A peu de temps et de distance de la, le commissaire Baume et son adjoint, l'inspecteur Sidoine, sont informes qu'un crime surprenant vient d'etre commis: un homme a ete assailli en pleine rue. Son agresseur lui a porte un coup de couperet derriere la tete; la mort fut instantanee. Au cours de l'enquete, le commissaire est informe de l'existence de M. Noname au Cube Blanc. Existe-t-il un lien entre le meurtre et la presence de l'etrange personnage ? Qui est vraiment ce Noname ? La perspicacite du fin limier qu'est le commissaire Baume va etre mise a rude epreuve... F.D. Ricard est le premier pseudonyme de Frederic Dard. Le mystere du Cube Blanc est son premier roman policier populaire, il parait aux Editions de Savoie, en 1945, dans la collection Le Gendarme . Apres les recentes parutions des oeuvres de jeunesse de Frederic Dard, les Editions Fayard ont decide de reediter les titres de ces ouvrages policiers parus sous pseudonyme, qui n'ont jamais ete publies jusqu'a ce jour.

Auteur francais prolifique, doue d'un solide sens de l'humour et d'un appetit de vivre hors du commun, Frederic Dard est le createur du celebrissime commissaire San-Antonio et de son adjoint Berurier, dont il ecrivit pres de deux cents aventures entre 1949 et sa mort, en 2000. Fayard Noir a entrepris la republication de plusieurs de ses ouvrages devenus introuvables: Le Mystere du cube blanc, On demande un cadavre, La Grande Friture, Vingt-huit minutes d'angoisse ou La Main morte.
