Unis par un amour fou et lies par un voeu de chastete, les Maritain livrerent leur existence a Dieu sans partage, au prix, pour Raissa, de la plus dure mort a soi-meme, et, pour tous deux, d'une bouleversante solitude. Unanimement saluee par la critique, cette biographie a recu, lors de sa parution en 1995, le Prix de la biographie de l'Academie francaise et le Grand Prix catholique de litterature. Elle a ete traduite en Italie et aux Etats-Unis. Ecrivain et historien, Jean-Luc Barre est l'auteur, entre autres, de Francois Mauriac, biographie intime, 1885-1940 (tome 1, 2009), ainsi que d'un livre d'entretiens avec Jean Mauriac, Le General et le journaliste (2008). Fondateur de la collection Temoignages pour l'Histoire aux Editions Fayard, il est aujourd'hui directeur de la collection Bouquins chez Robert Laffont.
