Michael Brandes est une legende du cinema. Il compte parmi les plus grands acteurs de tous les temps. Et, vers la fin de sa vie, il fut incontestablement le plus gros. Ce bel obese en rappellera naturellement un autre. La star mondialement celebre, sa depression chronique, son donjuanisme incorrigible, son excentricite, son mepris pour les gens de Hollywood, son arrogance, sa generosite, son genie et la boulimie qui le tua constituent l'interiorite d'un personnage authentique. Les quelques mois qu'il passe ici sur l'ile de Faro, lieu privilegie du cineaste Ingmar Bergman, n'ont jamais eu lieu. Parce qu'il fallait une situation imaginaire pour eclairer le mythe vivant que l'acteur est devenu. Claude Delarue est ecrivain. Son dernier roman, La comtesse dalmate, est paru chez Fayard en 2005.

Claude Delarue est ne a Geneve. Apres des etudes de musicologie a l'Academie de Vienne (Autriche), il vit a Hambourg et Berlin ou il etudie la litterature et la philosophie - notamment Friedrich Schlegel. De retour a Geneve, il devient conseiller et illustrateur musical a la TV suisse romande. Parallelement, il ecrit des scenarii dramatiques. Delegue du C.I.C.R. (Comite international de la Croix rouge), il sejourne en Israel, en Cisjordanie et dans la Bande de Gaza ou il visite les prisonniers politiques et veille a la bonne application par les autorites occupantes de la troisieme convention de Geneve concernant les populations civiles. De retour en Europe, apres la parution de son premier livre (un recueil de nouvelles, Les Collines d'argile), il s'installe a Paris ou il vit depuis 1973. Claude Delarue a publie a Paris une vingtaine de romans, essais, recits, biographies: La Lagune, Denoel, 1974; L'Opera de brousse, Denoel, 1976; Le Grand homme, Balland, 1979; La Chute de l'Ange, editions Balland, 1981; Edgar Allan Poe, Balland, 1984; La Mosaique, Seuil, 1986; En attendant la guerre, Seuil, 1989; Le Triomphe des elephants, Seuil, 1992; La Faiblesse de Dieu, Seuil, 1995; Charles Baudelaire, l'enfant idiot. Honte et revolte chez Charles Baudelaire, Belfond, 1997; Naga, Seuil, 2000; Les Chambres du desert, Fayard, 2002; La Comtesse dalmate, Fayard, 2005. Il recoit le Prix du premier roman pour La Lagune, le Prix Dentan pour La Mosaique, le Prix Schiller et le Prix de la Societe des gens de lettres de France pour L'Opera de brousse, le Prix de l'Academie francaise de la nouvelle pour Le Grand homme, le Prix du roman europeen (European Novel award) et le Prix Lipp pour En attendant la guerre, ainsi que le Prix Schiller pour Les Chambres du desert et l'ensemble de son oeuvre a ce jour. Claude Delarue est par ailleurs l'auteur de plusieurs oeuvres theatrales, parmi lesquelles: Les Troyennes, adaptation libre d' Euripide, "Roy Hart Theatre." Theatre des Treize vents, Montpellier 1990; Clavigo, de Goethe, traduction. Mise-en-scene Agathe Alexis; Luna-Park, Centre dramatique du Nord Pas-de-Calais, realisation Alain Barsacq). On lui doit aussi des pieces radiophoniques, parmi lesquelles: Le silence des neiges, France Culture 1989; Retrouvailles, France Culture 1997. Realisation Blandine Masson; Hotel du Deluge, France culture, diffusion novembre 1997. Realisation Marguerite Gateau . En outre, un film a ete tourne a partir de son recit paru aux editions de l'Aire, L'Hermeneute ou le Livre de cristal (Realisation Patricia Plattner, avec Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi et Jean-Francois Balmer). Directeur litteraire aux editions Flammarion de 1986 a 1990, conseiller editorial chez Julliard, membre du comite de lecture du service dramatique de France Culture et actuellement editeur et membre du comite de lecture aux editions Albin Michel, Claude Delarue accomplit regulierement des cycles de conferences en Allemagne, Angleterre, Egypte, Tunisie, Australie, Nouvelle Zelande pour le compte du ministre des Affaires etrangeres. Il dirige par ailleurs la collection Musique des editions Buchet-Chastel. En janvier 2006, Claude Delarue est nomme Chevalier de l'Ordre des arts et des lettres. photo: (c) Andersen
