Henri Martin est certainement le plus grand comploteur du siecle. Ne en pleine affaire Dreyfus, il adhere a quatorze ans a l'Action francaise, fascine par le discours et l'activisme antirepublicains des fideles de Charles Maurras. Mais Martin est un independant farouche et quitte bien vite l'organisation monarchiste qu'il juge trop timoree. Les Juifs, les francs-macons, la finance internationale et les bolcheviks entretiennent, dans les annees trente, son exaltation et son acharnement a guerroyer contre les adversaires des valeurs de la France eternelle au nom desquelles il se bat. Puis il fonde avec quelques extremistes la fameuse Cagoule, qui a pour objectif avoue de renverser la Republique, de lutter contre les Republicains espagnols et d'extirper le communisme... Martin qui, toute sa vie, fera du renseignement politique, met son energie farouche au service de Petain. Mais bientot la passion de l'intrigue reprend le dessus, contre Laval d'abord (juge trop favorable a l'occupant), contre une partie du gouvernement de Vichy ensuite (qui, pense-t-il, fait obstacle a la Revolution nationale). Excedees, les autorites de Vichy le font interner en 1942. Et Martin finira la guerre comme agent des Americains ! Apres guerre, il reprend son combat contre les communistes, et bientot sa carriere de conjure. Ses complots contre la IV' Republique sont finalement detournes par les gaullistes en mai 58: Martin est ainsi un acteur essentiel du retour du general de Gaulle, qu'il execre pourtant. Puis ce sera, bien sur, l'O.A.S. Tranquille est la Republique quand Martin se repose a... la Sante. Voici une extraordinaire traversee du siecle, la vie d'un comploteur magnifique, racontee a partir d'une enquete aupres des derniers temoins de cette epopee, d'une plongee aux archives et dans les papiers de famille du mysterieux Docteur.

Ne en 1938, Pierre Pean est journaliste et ecrivain. Il a publie une vingtaine d'ouvrages depuis 1975..
